Aerospace Fighters
Thunderbolt
_The Thunderbolt heavy fighter is one of the two main
fighter aircraft patterns used by the Imperial Navy. The Thunderbolt is
the mainstay weapon system of Imperial Navy fighter wings and is a
rugged, well-armed and armoured heavy fighter with all-around
capabilities, a good maximum speed and above-average manoeuvrability,
powerful nose-mounted weapons and hard points located on the wings for
missile or bomb load-outs. It is an aircraft that is well-liked by those
who fly and service it and it has served the cause of the Emperor for
many centuries.
The Thunderbolt's primary combat role is as an air superiority fighter. It seeks out and engages enemy aircraft in dogfights or hunts enemy bombers to establish air superiority. The Thunderbolt's greatest strength is its versatility, since it has good performance as a high-altitude escort fighter while it is also serviceable in the roles of a low-altitude fighter-bomber, night fighter or even as a reconnaissance aircraft when necessary.

VTOL Valkyrie Multi-role gunship
_
The Valkyrie
is an Imperial Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) airborne assault
carrier used primarily by the Imperial Guard as both a gunship and a
transport for airborne combat regiments like Storm Trooper Squads. The
Valkyrie's primary armament is a Multi-laser or a Lascannon that is
mounted just to the side of the cockpit. The Valkyrie also possesses two
external fuel tanks to provide extended range, though these are modular
and can be swapped out for two Hellstrike Missiles when the aircraft is
intended to be used as a gunship instead of a transport. When used as a
transport to drop off or pick up troops, the Valkyrie also deploys two
door-mounted Heavy Bolters that are each manned by one gunner. This
weapons load allows the Valkyrie, when using its VTOL capabilities, to
stay on station once its troops have been dropped and provide air
support or covering support fire during a difficult insertion. Valkyries
that make use of the two additional external fuel tanks possess the
cargo capacity to carry modified Drop Sentinels, Cyclops or Sentry Guns
instead of a complement of Guardsmen.
